| The Cuban economy has been showing steady progress
in the tourism, construction, mining, and oil and gas exploration sectors. It is projected
to grow by 5 per cent in 1997, as the demand for imports to rebuild the economy continues
to rise. The government's policy of decentralization has led to an increase of Cuban
enterprises that now import products and services. Great opportunities exist for Canadians to service the increasing number of foreign joint ventures that have been established in recent years. Two free-trade zones have been introduced recently, providing advantages for Canadian exporters to Cuba and the Caribbean, and to investors wishing to establish production facilities in Cuba. Canadian companies with a long-term strategy can take advantage of the proximity of the Cuban markets, and Canada's strong reputation as a reliable business partner in technology, tourism development, construction materials, transportation and food stuffs. The WestCanCuba Trading House is a privately held Canadian Trading Company, focusing on Import/Export, Telecommunication, Agriculture, Tourism and Cultural Exchanges between Western Canada and Cuba.
